Abstract:
This research study THE CREATION OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE BASED ON GENDER DIVERSITY has been created in the light of information about gender and cultural diversity, semiology, and fine arts. The objectives of this qualitative and creative research are to create a contemporary dance and to conceptualize knowledge derived from conducting this research study. The data has been gathered upon related documentation from printed materials and information technological media, interview with the experts, observation, researchers background experience, and standard criteria of artists. Then, various sources of information had been analyzed and developed an experiment to form a dancing show which was publicly performed intertwined with an exhibition later on. It is found that this contemporary dance has illustrated the images of gender, sexuality, and the relationship between social phenomenon and gender diversity generating by eight dancing elements: 1) Script writing depicting story the gender diversity. 2) Performers casted from dancing ability and gender diversity. 3) Choreography invented upon contemporary dance and Dance theatre. 4) Music featured from Tango, Pop Jazz, Electronic, March, and Classical. 5) Stage space utilization converted from the traditional theatre. 6) Stage prop (a rainbow flag) signifying the diversity of genders. 7) Costumes with rainbow colors reflected the concept of gender diversity. 8) Light design enhancing the feeling of the show. Besides, there were six elements to be learnt. 1) concepts of gender diversity, 2) contemporary dance creation, 3) creativity in dance, 4) semiology in dance, 5) theories of fine arts, and 6) cultural diversity. According to the survey, it is found that the audiences genders were diversified and 95% of them were satisfied with the show. Most of them suggested that this show should be presented to the public. Portraying gender diversity idea was challenging to the social perception but inventive. It could be stated that dancing can be an effective medium to create the perception of gender diversity in the society. Regarding to the result, the objectives of this research have been fulfilled.
