Abstract:
This thesis is aimed to study the vibration characteristics and improve the response of HGA tester using finite element analysis. It is focused on the Load Receiver, HGA holding mechanism, which consists of six main pasts i.e. Lock Down Puck, Base Plate, 4-Bar Linkage, Tilt Plate, Flexure Element and Nest. The analysis is separated into two cases, individual part and complete system. The results from each part show that those parts do not contribute the resonance since the fundamental frequency is ten time higher than the working speed, 114 Hz. However, 4-Bar Linkage, Tilt Plate and Nest, have significant high displacement transmissibility ratios that could cause errors in the tracking profile of I-IGA during the read-write process. For the complete system analysis, it was found that the Load Receiver has not enough restraint positions. The system has fundamental frequency at 518 Hz and high displacement transmissibility ratio. The study conducted reveals the behaviors of Load Receiver that is crucial to reduce the vibration amplitude and improve the tester performance. By indicating appropriate mounting position, higher fundamental frequency and lower displacement transmissibility could be achieved.
