Abstract:
This thesis studied the effect of moulding pressure and sodium hydroxide on the unconfinedcompressive strength of Kaolin clay from Prachinburi, Ranong, Lampang, Suratthani and Uttaraditprovince. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) was added to each mix at 6%, 8% and 10% by weight ofKaolin clay with moulding pressure at 13, 15,17,19 MPa and moisture between + 2 % 0MC.Thespecimens were cured at room temperature and tested at the age of 3, 14, 28 and 56 days. Theresults showed that the maximum compressive strength is 19 MPa and the value of unconfinedcompressive strength increased with the increasing in moulding pressure. The maximum unconfinedcompressive strength determined from 5 Kaolin clay were follows : 28.94 MPa at 8 percent ofNaOH for Prachinburi Kaolin clay, 23.83 MPa at 10 percent NaOH for Ranong Kaolin clay, 17.58MPa at 8 percent of NaOH for Lampang Kaolin clay, 20.74 MPa at 10 percent of Suratthani Kaolinclay and 1.52 MPa at 10 percent of NaOH for Uttaradit Kaolin clay.
