Abstract:
Of 5 Rhodotomla spp. strains tested (Rhodotomla sp.KU, Rhodotomla sp.KMUTT,Rhodotomla sp.TISTR5127, Rhvdotomla sp.DM28 and Rhodotomla sp.DM17), Rhodotomlasp.DM28 grcw bcst and produced carotenoids maximally in synthetic deiined medium.When Rhodotomla sp.DM28 was cultivated in leltuce brine for 72 hours, itsoptimum growth was achieved at temperature of 30?C, C/N ratio at 4 and agitation speed of200 rpm. Under each condition, the growth was 1.4,3.7 and 5.2 g/L, respectively. Its optimumcarotenoid production were achieved at temperature of 30?C, C/N ratio at 8 and agitation speedof 150 rpm. Under each condition, the carotenoid production was 27.1,5 1.8 and 64.6 pg/g driedcells, respectively. Carotenoid production by Rhodotomla sp.DM28 was not much differentunder illumination and no illumination conditions.After Rhodotomla sp.DM28 was cultivated for 30 hours in a 2-L fermenter, itproduced carolenoid 63 pg/g dried cells. It was shown that the carotenoid production infermeitter was better and faster than that in shake flasks.
