Abstract:
This research aims to study and to understand the meaning of being and social space process of foreigners wives. This research is a qualitative research using the phenomenological Approach of Martin Heidegger. The informants are married to westerners, aged between 20-60 years, have been married with or without a marriage certification at least 2 years and Chon Buri census registration is required. The samples of the research, which were purposively and snow ball selected, included 13 Thai female informants, data analysis was thematic analysis. The findings show that the meaning of being and social space process of foreigners wives were resulted from their Hermeneutic circles. First, the pre-understanding process or before being westerners wives, their positive attitudes and perceptions about a cross-cultural marriage were the two main results; firstly from the background of their negative viewpoints on the appearance and qualification; secondly from the dreams of the financial supporting from a foreigner and the different images of the westerners when compares to Thai men. Second, the new-understanding process or after being foreigners wives, their marriage life experiences were four significant outcomes. First, the suituatedness of the westerners wives, including the emotional adjustment, the appearance creation and the skill enhancement. Second, the tolerance from social stigma, being a gold treasure for relatives and friends, and a different culture struggle. Third, every coin has two sides including the fulfillment and the unfulfillment parts of the marriage life. Fourth, the social space of the westerners wives, the spaces were used to present their being and their worlds; firstly, a mixed race child is a meaningful part of negotiation, a ticket to success and also a bond of love; secondly, a kitchen is for a family relationship and for being a perfect housewife or Mae Sri Reuan
