Abstract:
In this thesis, we present configuration management using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM 2012) for Calsonic Kansei (Thailand) Co.,Ltd (CKT). The company has issues of time spending on 1) the software installation on client PCs, 2) the software upgrade, 3) the software update / Windows patch deployment, and 4) security risk management. In experiments, we use about 600 computers located in the CKTs network for testing deployments, done by SCCM 2012. Firstly, we test the deployment of standard OS images on 30 PCs (HP EliteDesk 705 G1). The deployment is completed within 89 min. We found that the finishing deployment time depends heavily on spec of network equipment and hard disk. In the second experiment, we deploy eleven common applications for CKT users. The success rate is 91%, and depends on the installation files size. Note that SCCM could not deploy the .exe installation file, as we could not deploy LEXiTRON Dictonary 2.6. In the third experiment, we deploy Windows security updates and critical patch to the 326 PCs, whose OS is Windows 7 (32 bit) about 326 PCs. It turns out that only 85.89% can get updated successfully, due to various errors, e.g., not enough storage is available to complete. In the last experiment, we deploy and update the antivirus SCEP on 636 computers. The results show 95.3% SCEP deployment success. The deployment failure might be because there are inactive PCs, of which user is out of office
