Abstract:
A study of diversity of birds at Doi Mae Sa Long Ma Fah Laung District Chiang Rai Province, was done from May 2010 to April 2011. Study area was selected for 30 plots and set up in Primary forest 7 plots, Secondary forest 11 plots and Non-forest 12 plots (tea plantation 2 plots, lychee orchard 2 plots, rubber plantation 2 plots, fallow 2 plots, pines planted areas 3 plots and forest restoration 2 years old 1 plot) by point count method. There were 167 species from 44 families in 11 orders for that there were 134 species of resident birds and 33 species of migratory bird. Diversity index by Shannon s Index, H and Evenness index, E, the indices values of secondary forest plots (H = 3.395 and E= 0.910) was higher than primary forest plots (H = 3.316 and E = 0.893) and non-forest plots (H = 2.905 and E = 0.865), respectively. Similarity of community by Sorensen index, CS showed that there was the highest similarity of bird community between primary and secondary forest plots (CS = 70.09) and the lowest between secondary forest plots and non-forest plots (CS= 61.19). From calculation the frequency of bird species observation ability are found that Greater Coucal (Centropus sinensis) had the highest frequency value and followed by Sooty-headed Bulbul (Pycnonotus aurigaster). In conclusion from diversity indices showed that the bird diversities were in medium levels. There was found the dispersing of birds in the group of generalist species from this area was degraded by human activities.
