Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the opinions towards furthering education at a high school level or equivalence among students studying in opportunity expansion schools under the supervision of Chantaburi Basic Educational Service Area 1. Also, this study intended to determine factors correlating to the decision-making in furthering education at a high school level or equivalence among these students. The subjects participating in this study were 216 students. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire. The statistical tests used to analyze the collected data included frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviation. The test of Chi-Square was also administered to test the relationships between the interested variables. The results of the study, based on the test of research hypotheses, revealed that there was no relationship between the subjects personal factors, including gender and educational achievement, and their decision in furthering a higher educational level. Also, no relationship was found between environmental factors, including amount of information receiving and teachers guidance, and the subjects decision in furthering a higher educational level. In addition, the family factors, including parents average amount of monthly income, parents occupation, and types of family, had no relationship with the subjects decision in furthering a higher educational level. It was found that there was a relationship between parents highest educational level and the subjects decision in furthering a higher educational level at a significant level of .05. Moreover, no relationships were found between psychological factors, including learning attitudes, peer influence, and educational value among parents, and the subjects decision in furthering a higher educational level. Finally, there was a relationship between the subjects achievement motivation and their decision to pursue a higher educational level.
