Abstract:
A Self- Reliance Process in the way of life for the elders according to the Buddhist
Psychology comprises three objectives 1) to study the conditional character of factors in the selfreliance in the way of life for the elderly; 2) to study the Buddhadhamma and psychological theory
for a self-reliance in the way of life for the elderly; and 3) to present the self-reliance process in the
way of life for the elderly based on Buddhist Psychology. This is a qualitative research in nature.
The researcher uses an in-depth interview from the key informants who are scholars, specialists in
the elderlys way of life, academics in the fields of psychology and Buddhism and a focus group
discussion of the self-reliant elderly aged between 60-75 years is also done. A content analysis and
inductive analysis with the descriptive explanation are used for analyzing data.
A self-reliance process of living lifestyle for elderly people with Buddhist Psychology
consists of two sub-processes: 1) process of development, enhancing positive thinking with
following the world news, future policy, innovative, keeping learning forever and promoting of
having the qualities of Iddhipada 4 by practicing frequently meditation, performing activities with
intention to get a good and valuable performance for ourselves and others and finally be proud and
be happy, 2) process of improvement and resolve the problems that occurred inside their elderly
people by practicing self- learning, knowing practicing meditation to get consciousness and
mindfulness. When they face the problems, they can find out the causes, the solutions and then
implement by themselves.
