Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to examine desired characteristics of project managers for a unit of project administration at Double A (1991) Co., Ltd. Also, this study attempted to compare desired and actual characteristics of project managers in terms of their personality, human relationship, leadership, knowledge and competence in administration, and ethics. The population participating in this study was 57 staff at operational level, working for project administration unit at Double A (1991) Co., Ltd. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire. The statistical tests for data analysis included frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviation. The results of the study revealed that the means score for the subjects opinion toward desired and actual characteristics of project managers was found at the highest level. When considering each aspect, it was found that the subjects rated the desired characteristics of project managers in relation to their personality with the highest means score, followed by the characteristics relating to leadership. Regarding human relationship, knowledge and competence in administration, they were two aspects of characteristics of project managers that were rated with low means score. Based on the results from the comparison, it was shown that the means score for expected characteristics of project managers was higher than that of actual characteristics. The highest means score for the discrepancy between desired and actual characteristics of project managers was the characteristics in relation to leadership, followed by the aspect of personality. Finally, the means score for the discrepancy between desired and actual characteristics in relation to human relationship, knowledge and competence in administration of project managers was found minimal.
