Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to identify ways to the success of OTOP Phayao, especially during a economic crisis. Mixed research approach is employed. Both qualitative and quantitative data are collected as follows. First, face-to-face interviews with ten entrepreneurs and a government staff are conducted. Interview data are then analyzed to identify factors that influence success of OTOP Phayao. Second, telephone questionnaires are developed based on the results of the interviews. 57 OTOP entrepreneurs are willing provide their business data via telephone. Survey data are then analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis. From qualitative and quantitative analyses, it is found that apart from OTOPs stars and revenues, a length of operation is a good measurement of OTOPs success. A longer length of the operation can indicate their success. To survive during a economic crisis, OTOP Phayao needs to maintain their members unity. In addition, personal characteristics of an entrepreneur, especially his diligence and persistence, are also very important for their success, OTOP Phayao still needs governmental supports, specifically in terms of funding and product developments. For product development, this study suggests that rather than producing varieties of products, OTOP Phayao needs to focus on how to make their products unique.
