Training needs assessment on tour guide competency for vocational teachers in hotel and tourism management section in Lao PDR

Abstract: This research objectives were to 1) investigate the training needs assessment on tour guide competency for vocational teachers in Hotel and Tourism Management Section, and 2) prioritize tour guide competency needs for vocational teachers in Hotel and Tourism Management Section. The research content included functional competency from the Lao’ national competency standards for tour guide occupation, and ASEAN standards for working as the tour guide. The population involved 42 teachers in field of tourism in the six public Technical and Vocational Colleges. The data were collected by using the questionnaire, consisted 16 groups of tour guide’ competency used to ask for current and desired competency. The data were analyzed by using the descriptive statistics and Modified Priority Needs Index (PNImodified). The investigation found that the vocational teachers’ desired competency on tour guiding are high while the current competency are average. The highest gaps between desired results and current results are the group of competency on giving information, and group of competency on providing basic nursing (first-aid), excepted the group of competency on taking care for safety of the tour had no gaps. The PNImodified defined the first training need priority is the group of competency on providing basic nursing (first-aid). This results served as the database for training planning for the vocational teachers.

Abstract: การวิจัยครั้งนีhมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อประเมินและจัดลำดับความสำคัญของความต้องการจำเป็น การฝึกอบรมสมรรถนะการเป็นมัคคุเทศก์ของครูอาชีวศึกษาในภาควิชาบริหารโรงแรมและ การท่องเที่ยว ที่มีรายละเอียดประกอบด้วยกลุ่มสมรรถนะในการทำงานอาชีพมัคคุเทศก์จาก มาตรฐานอาชีพแห่งชาติของลาวเและมาตรฐานอาเซียน ประชากรที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ ครูสาขาการ ท่องเที่ยวทั้งหมด 42 คนจาก 6 วิทยาลัยเทคนิคและอาชีวศึกษาภาครัฐ เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยใช้ แบบสอบถามและใช้สถิติเชิงพรรณนาและดัชนีการจัดลำดับความสำคัญความต้องการจำเป็นแบบ ปรับปรุง (PNI modified) ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ผลการวิจัย พบว่า สมรรถนะที่ต้องการฝึกอบรมการ เป็นมัคคุเทศก์ของครูอาชีวศึกษาอยู่ในระดับสูง ในขณะที่สมรรถนะในปัจจุบันที่มีอยู่มีค่าในระดับ ปานกลาง ช่องว่างระหว่างผลลัพธ์สมรรถนที่ต้องการกับผลลัพธ์สมรรถนะในปัจจุบันที่มีอยู่สูง ที่สุดคือกลุ่มสมรรถนะในการให้ข้อมูลและกลุ่มสมรรถนะในการให้การพยาบาลขั;นพื้นฐาน ยกเว้น กลุ่มสมรรถนะในการดูแลความปลอดภัยในการเดินทางท่องเที่ยวไม่ปรากฏช่องว่าง ดัชนีการ จัดลำดับความสำคัญความต้องการจำเป็นแบบปรับปรุง (PNI modified) ชี้ให้เห็นความสำคัญอับดับแรก ของความต้องการจำเป็นการฝึกอบรมคือกลุ่มสมรรถนะในการให้การพยาบาลขั้นพื้นฐาน (ปฐมพยาบาล) ซึ่งผลการวิจัยนี้สามารถนำไปใช้เป็นฐานข้อมูลสำหรับการวางแผนการจัดลำดับ การฝึกอบรมสำหรับครูอาชีวศึกษาในสาขาการท่องเที่ยวต่อไป
