Online mentoring model by matching of compatible different attributes
Abstract:
Nowadays, online mentoring has become a part of many organizations. Technology and the internet have changed every aspect of life, so beliefs in shared talent and traditional mentoring are no longer sufficient to support organizations. Thus, this dissertation proposes new attributes and an innovative online mentoring model. More specifically, this dissertation has two objectives including to identify the appropriate attributes, and to identify the most appropriate matching method for online mentoring. For identification of attributes, new attributes were proposed based on the assumption that people with compatible different attributes can work together. Consequently, the proposed attributes are named compatible different attributes and includes thirteen mentor attributes and eleven mentee attributes. For the appropriate matching method, this dissertation employed machine learning techniques including decision tree, k-means, and k-medoids. Data collection was carried out from four universities including Mae Fah Luang University, University of Phayao, Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, and Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University with 32 mentors and 205 mentees. For identification of attributes, the results showed that the model with 5 depth level was the most appropriate model with 78.90% accuracy. For identification of matching model, the results showed that k-medoids performed better classification than k-means. For future work, research should be conducted by reducing the number of attributes and by studying other types of clustering methods so that higher accuracy can be achieved. Lastly, studying the proposed mentoring model with other types of online communities would also be advantageous.
