Abstract:
This thesis aims to study the system of chemical and hazardous wastes management from a transistor factory. The aspects of the study are material and chemical incoming, material and chemical storage, chemical transportation, protective and emergency response equipments, emergency plan, and hazardous waste management. It is found that most of the factory's procedures are complied with regulations. However, some procedures have shortcomings. Examples are in cutting & soldering process where the chemical is not stored in a safe condition, emergency plan is not separated by chemical types, and the lack of emergency equipments . In addition, violation in the regulation of a hazardous waste generator as well as the system of hazardous waste transportation can be seen. This thesis also presents suggestions in order to improve the management system, such as separation of the emergency plan by chemical and hazardous waste groups, the selection of a way to dispose contaminated containers, e.g. burning them in cement manufacture rather than stabilization and landfill. All recommendations in each aspect can be exemplary procedures for other transistor factories.
