Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study the current situation, problems and theneeds of teaching and learning in Computer graphic study at the certificate level in the Faculty ofArts in Education Institutes under the Department of Vocational Education. The samples were 33 computer graphic instructors and 412 students who had alreadypassed the course of computer graphic from 12 central region and metropolitan institutes underthe Department of Vocational Education where Arts has been offered.Instruments for data collecting were questionnaires and statistical analysis forpercentage, ratio, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and non-parametric Kolmogorov-Smirnov.The results of the research were as follows:Most computer graphic instructors followed outlines in the cuniculum in theirteaching, for graphic practicing, Instructors offered only what they fluently did. Less number ofthe instructors looked for more know-how in computer graphic and technology. In fact, Thelaboratories were too small, out of date computers with their accessories, teaching methodologywere lectuie, demonstration and simulation. Most students had some computer experience fromtheir secondary level. Only 18.72 % of students had no computer acknowledgement. Moststudents rented personal computers from houses of computer service for self access or practice. Most institutes had not enough personal computers to serve students' needs in practicing andInternet searching.Major problems in learning and teaching were both software and hardware. Forsoftware content, there were shortage of modem computer graphic texts and manuals. Forhardware, there were not suitable proportion between the number of students and personalcomputers as well as the size of the labs and the number of technicians.Requirements and recommendations were : the computers with accessories neededto be improved to suit the computer graphic learning and teaching. In order to make the most usefor learning, direct computer connected to LCD projectors for program demonstration should bepermanently fixed in the suitable size labs for practicing. Instructors should be continuallytrained both in computer graphic and technology. There were no significant errors in hardware solving problem and in teachingeffectiveness between instructors with and without computer background knowledge andexperience. On the contrary, there were different ideas in improving and providing computersand their accessories with graphic modules as well as providing students' activities, text, supplementary, and standardized tests. Anyway, there were the same ideas in providing varietyready made graphic modules meanwhile, exchanging activities and know how in computergraphic and technology with privates enterprises were important. Besides, most instructorspreferred teaching basic computer then followed by computer graphic in the air-conditioned labs. This research presented profitable data and important recommendations for effectivefuture planning and improving all subjects concerning computer and technology; as a result, the education quality could be assured.
