Abstract:
The purpose of this rcsearch was to study the current status, problclns and needs ofcomputer instruction for electrical power students of a diploma level in technical colleges and tocompare the opinions of teachers and students, and regular class students and evening classstudents about problems and needs of computer instruction. The samples of the study consistedof 36 teachers and 872 students in the departments of electrical power from 15 technicalcollegcs. This rescarch used the questionnaire as a tool to collect thc data. Thc data was analyzcdby using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test two-sample test.The results of the study were as follows:1. It was found that the majority of instructors and students were males and most ofthem graduated with bachelor degree but not in coinputer science. They have less teachingexperience and were overloaded. Most of teaching media were white broad and text books. Themajority of computer software packages, popularly used for learning were Auto CAD, BASICLanguage and Microsoft Word2. The problems of computer instruction as viewed by computer teachcrs andstudents were as follows: Computer rooms were not adeguate for students; efficiency ofcomputer were not appropriate for the software used and students had no EngIish baclcground forcomputers.3. In comparison of the opinions of teachers and students about problems ofcomputer instruction, the result showed the differences in content of subject, instructors, studentsand evaluation, while no differences were found in instruction media and computers classrooms.4. In comparison of the opinions of teachers and students about the needs ofcomputer instruction, it was found that on the whole they had different opinions in this regard.5. In comparison of the opinions of students of the regular group and cvcning group,it was found that the students had different opinions in inst~uctional media and evaluation whilethcy did not have different ideas in content of subject, instructors, students and coinputcrclassrooms.6. In coinparison of the opinions of students of the regular group and eveninggroup, it showed that thcy had different opinions about needs of colnputcr instruction.
