Abstract:
At the present time, the productions of black tiger shrimp increase sharply in Thailand. The pollution loading of intensive farming has been implicated in the deterioration ofenvironmental and yields of harvest shrimps. Main problems of polluted water come fiomdisease, ammonia-N, nitrite-N and other pollution loading such as uneaten feed, feces, chemicalsubstance and organic matters. This paper studied effect of ozonation and chitosan asbioflocculation in low salinity area of shrimp pond. The main properties of ozone aredisinfectant and high power oxidizing agent. Chitosan removed various kinds of pollutants suchas suspended solid, BOD and COD.Experiments from JarTest in various pH (7-9), alkalinity (53-104 mgA as CaCO3),salinity (4-10 ppt) and initial turbidity (16-102 NTU) by using chitosan solution 1, 5, 10, 20,40and 80 ppm showed that the ability and power of flocculant depended on pH, alkalinity, salinityand initial turbidity value. At low and medium pH, low alkalinity, low salinity and high initialturbidity had higher power of flocculant. The optimum dose of chitosan solution was 1 and 10ppm (reduced turbidity more than 63 percent). For the optimum ozone dose fiom pilot scale was0.001023 mg Q3/lExperiments on the low salinity area of 3 rai shrimp culture pond size for 120 dayswith 5 condition (pond using chitosan solution 1 ppm, pond using chitosan solution 10 ppm, pond without chitosan and ozone using, pond using chitosan solution 10 ppm and ozone, pondusing only ozone ). pH, DO, BOD, COD, alkalinity, turbidity, TSS, ammonia-N and nitrite-Nindicated water quality level every week. Water quality was lowest in control pond. Ozone pondhad found little ammonia-N and nitrite-N problems. Chitosan pond (Dosage of chitosan solutionis 10 ppm) was low turbidity and TSS. Ozone&Chitosan pond was the best quality. Good waterquality level in shrimp pond affected positively yield of harvested shrimp. The total weights ofharvested shrimps were 2,502, 2,805, 2,302, 3,164 and 2,709 kilograms respectively, but nodifferent survival rate. This experiment confirmed that pond using chitosan solution and ozoneimproved water quality and yield of harvested shrimps.
