Abstract:
The purpose of this classroom-based research study is to invedgate how farthe use: of the Pwblem Specific Guidelines (PSG) technique for accuracy duringediting could improve the grammatical accwiicy of students writing.The study was carried out with 34 first year Microbiology undergrcsduates,Faculty of Science at King Mongkuts University of Technology Thonburi. Theresearch instruments used for data gathering were records of the number of mistakesand the number of students who made mistakes, questionnaire, students diaries andsemi-structured interview.In order to examine how far the PSG technique for accuracy could helpstudents to improve the pmmatical accuracy of their writing, the teacher as theresearcher assigned them the four written tasks to which apply the PSG techniquecould be applied. There were three steps in the PSG treatment., namely, describingstudents own drawing, the PSG sheet and self-editing.The findings of this research study reveal that by using the PSG for accuracyduring editing, the studentsgmmatical accuracy in the written language increased.In other words, the students could reduce their grammar mistakes in Writing.Furthennore, the PSG technique encouraged students to become more aware ofgrammar rules during writing in their task and to be able to edit their mistakes bythemselves. The students also revealed positive attitudes towards this technique.
