Abstract:
The objectives of this research were; 1. to study the state of capacity of the abbots in Sangha Administration Region 2 in temple management as learning resources, 2. to develop the capacity of the abbots in Sangha Administration Region 2 in temple management as learning resources, and 3. to propose the development of capacity of the abbots in Sangha Administration Region 2 in temple management as learning resources. The quantitative data were collected through questionnaires from 75 abbots and analyzed by mean and standard deviation. The qualitative data were collected by in-depth interviews with 18 administrative monks and experts, and by group discussions, and then analyzed by content analysis.
The results of the study found that:
The state of capacity of the abbots in Sangha Administration Region 2 in temple management as learning resources, 1) In government capacity, almost the abbots have knowledge according to Dhamma and Vinaya and govern by paternalism, 2) In religious study capacity, almost the abbots are educated in the course of Dhamma, Pali and general education, 3) In educational welfare, almost the abbots place a focus on training and practicing based on Dhamma and Vinaya to people, 4) In propagation capacity, almost the abbots provide knowledge and practice to people through printed materials, radio and television, 5) In public assistance, almost the abbots give assistance to people in community and develop them materially and spiritually, and 6) In public welfare, almost the abbots volunteer in sub-district training activities, build the library, and assist and support public activities and advantages.
The development of abbots capacity starts from the most appropriate to the least in 1) Government capacity, 2) Educational welfare, 3) Public assistance capacity, 4) religious study capacity, 5) Propagation capacity, and 6) Public welfare capacity respectively.
The proposed development of abbots capacity in temple management as learning resources in Sangha Administration Region 2 is that the abbots have to thoroughly study and understand Sangha Acts, rules, regulations, resolution and announcement of the Sangha Ecclesiastical Council.
