Abstract:
The research aimed to compare the removal efficiency between Moving-Bed Sequencing BatchBiofilm Reactor (MBSBBR) and SBR to treatment synthetic wastewater. The moving-bed carriersmade from inner tire of ten wheels truck type. Surface area of media is 0.39 m2 per one reactor ofthis experiment lab scale. The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of organic loadingon removal efficiencies of both systems under HRT of 1.5, 3 and 5 days with synthetic wastewatercontaining COD of 400, 600 and 800 mgCOD/l. At the highest concentration of wastewater haveorganic loading 387, 193 และ 116 gBOD/m3.d. The results showed that the efficiencies of both SBRtypes were increased with the increase of HRT or decreased of organic loading. And it was foundthat MBSBBR gave more removal efficiencies than SBR system. At the highest HRT at 5 days andorganic loading 116 gBOD/m3.d, the effluent COD, BOD5, TKN and phosphorus of MBSBBRsystem were 24.07 ? 3.2, 19.3 ? 5.4, 1.17 ? 0.7 and 0.047 ? 0.007 mg/l respectively, while they were33.99 ? 3.7, 31.2 ? 2.7, 3.00 ? 0.5 and 0.061 ? 0.003 mg/l, respectively in SBR system. It meant thatthe COD, BOD5, TKN and phosphorus removal efficiencies of MBSBBR system were 97.01 ?0.4%, 96.65 ? 1%, 97.74 ? 1.4% and 66.29 ? 5.2% mg/l respectively, while they were 95.77 ? 0.5%,94.58 ? 0.4%, 94.20 ? 1% and 56.29 ? 2.4%, respectively in SBR system. The SRT of MBSBBR andSBR systems under highest HRT at 5 days and organic loading 116 gBOD/m3.d were 7.37 ? 0.3 and9.14 ? 0.5 days respectively. And also the effluent SS of MBSBBR and SBR systems were 23.57 ? 3and 46.93 ? 2 mg/l, respectively. For the determination of MLSS of the both systems, it was foundthat MLSS of MBSBBR system was higher than SBR system in all cases. At the highest HRT at 5days and organic loading 116 gBOD/m3, MLSS of MBSBBR were 2,712 mg/l while it was 2,000mg/l in SBR system. It could be suggested that the treatment system with higher MLSS gave moreremoval efficiency than lower MLSS. Then, MBSBBR showed higher removal efficiency than SBRsystem.
