A comparison of opinions of four year program and two year program students concernig the study in the art education program in higher education institutions under the jurisdiction of the ministry of University Affairs
Abstract:
The purpose of this research were to compare the opinions towards studying in the Art Education program of four year program and two year program students in higher education institutions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of University Affairs concerning on the reasons of program selection, learning and teaching, and trend to professional career and the further their studies. The population of this research were 112 art education students, which studying in the forth year of art education program in academic year 1989, namely, Chulalongkorn University, Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit, Srinakharinwirot University at Mahasarekham, Srinakharinwirot University at Bangsean, and Khon Kaen University. The researcher constructed one set of questionnaire for art education students consisted of check lisk, rating scale, and open-ended questions. The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The research findings revealed that the opinions of four year program students and two year students concerning the reasons of program selection and learning and teaching were no significant difference, exempt, the opinions concerning trend to professional career had statistically different. In the open-ended questionnaires, there were important suggestions which can be concluded as followings: the instructors should be fair, accept the students opinions, and encourage students works and expression. Method of teaching should be interesting and up dated, In the curriculum aspect, time of practicing art in studio and art course requirement should be increased. The elective courses should up to date and necessary to professional career. These elective courses should serve students aptitudes, abilities, and interests. The invited professor should be keen and specialized in each field. In the aspect of content area studio should emphasized for students to gain more experience. The institutions should give students about informations for furthers study and for getting their jobs before graduating a degree program.
