Abstract:
This research investigated the durability of the solidified plating sludge using lime and Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as solidification binder. First, the experiment was conducted to select the optimum ratio between RHA, lime and alkali activators. Three alkali activators were used for this study, sodium silicate solution ( water glass, Na2O3Si) sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC).The activators were added at 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 wt.% .Three ratios of RHA and lime (65:35, 55:45 and 45:55 wt.% ) were investigated. Showed that Strengthe development of blended cements 28 days of during found that optimum ratio between lime and RHA was 45:55 and at Na2CO3 concentration of 8 % wt.%. The plating sludge was them added to the optimum blended cement at 0, 10, 20 and 30 wt.% with and without activator. The solidified wastes were tested for durability to acid corrosion . Acetic, nitric and sulfuric solution of 0.2, 0.05 and 0.05 N, respetively, and carbonic acid solution pH 4.5 were used. Experimental results showed that the solidified wastes with activator have higher resistance to acid corrosion than those without activator. Durability to acid corrosion was in the following order: carbonic > sulfuric> nitric > acetic acid solution . In addition, durability to acid corrosion and wet / dry cycle decreased with increasing the amount of plating sludge in solidified wastes.
