Abstract:
The purposes of the research entitled were; 1) to study the principle of worship in Theravada Buddhism 2) to study the worshipful method related to Maesrimueng merit making of people in Vientien City and 3) to analyze the value of worship as appeared in the tradition of Maesrimueng merit making of people in Vientien City. The collection of data was received from various documents, to participate in the sacrifice offering of Chaomaesrimueng and interviewing
The results of the study were found that the features of Chaomaesrimueng will have the features just like the worship, prayer, vow, and to request the blessing in order to require the things as they want to have such as work, money and fortunes etc. . The concept and theory related to the worshiping rituals of Chaomaesrimueng by using the concept of humanity, sociology, psychology including animism and spiritualism as the way to create the questionnaires, collection of the data and the content analysis.
The Buddhist teachings concerning the belief of worshiping rituals of Chaomaesrimueng enhance the social morality in the attitude of Buddhism. The belief of the worshiping rituals of Chaowmaesrimueng is provided in the group of 4 Attachments, that is, means clinging to the ego-belief and means clinging to mere rules and rituals and pseudo-sciences, but there are various principle of Dhamma effecting the concept of Brahma towards the natural power (Animism) , that is, in Yoni 4, the mater of 3 Divinities, 4 (planes of consciousness) Gati 5, the creatures (in Loka 3) the items of the compounded things and the consciousness (in the Five Aggregates) and Kamma and rebirth by certifying the fact of the hereafter and the heaven that are the core essence of the divine belief and the rituals of possessed spirits. While the principle of reflection towards the ritual performance consisting of the principle of the faith that is the belief in the conceptual systems without improvement. The picture of belief in Chaomaesrimueng will appear in the worshiping rituals of Chawmaesrimueng as created. The law of Kamma in the context of Kamma in accordance with the gist of Buddhism is not true such to do good for the sake of benefits both materials and satisfactory things. To practice the perfections results in the systems of charities in various forms.
Chaomaesrimueng and the Triple Gems are associated with the condition of belief, recognition and to apply for the life style of oneself and society. The Buddhist monks and Brahmana propagate the Triple Gems and believe in the Triple Gems and receive the relevant experience, and advice the others to have the faith in the Triple Gems that are raised up as the high respect. Chaomaesrimueng has the high role in giving the respiration for people while in the aspect of influence, Chaomaesrimueng has towards the Laos society. While the aspect of culture, economy, politics and administration and tradition are found in the high level.
From interviewing the Buddhist monks, Brahmana, scholars and people in various levels including the merchants it was found that the majority of people who want to have the spiritual refuges as one part of the community, The belief in Buddhism of Chaomaesrimueng is to believe in Merit Sin, to believe in Dhamma practice, to believe in Triple Gems, to believe in Hell and Heaven and to believe in Nippana accordingly. These beliefs lead to the rituals in accordance with those contexts. The worshiping ritual in Buddhism of Chaomaesrimueng consists of chanting, paying respect to Buddha descending to preservation of precepts, Dhamma practice, to do merit of Katina and forest robe ceremony , creation of Buddhas image, feeding the Buddhist monks, and offering to Orders. All these associate with between the Buddhist beliefs and Buddhist rituals of Chaomaesrimueng that enhance the social morality as material object.
