Abstract: In this research we used a mathematical model to study the dispersion of the concentration of an air pollutant released from a point source into the atmosphere. The initial condition is assumed to be a function??of the steady state emission rate. The diffusion coefficient is assumed to be function of z. We applied the finite difference method to approximate the concentration of the pollutants in the stationary advection-diffusion of an air pollutant model. The concentration profiles in the vertical direction were calculated using constant step sizes. The foresaid method involved solving a system of algebraic equations. Some numerical examples of solution of air pollution problems are demonstrated with varied parameters. Fortran programming was used to calculate the numerical solutions of linear systems using an iterative method (Gauss Seidel). The stability and convergence of the approximations are also discussed.
