Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to investigate the relation¬ship between the ability to conserve number and to solve mathema¬tical problems of prathom suksa one students and to compare the ability to conserve number between boys and girls, Two tests used in this study were the Conservation of Number Test which was developed by the Behavioral Science Research Institute and the Mathematical Problem Solving Test which was constructed by the researcher. The reliability coefficient of the Mathematical Problem Solving Test was 0.80. The subjects participating in this study were 101 prathom suksa one students from three schools under the auspices of the Office of Bangkok Primary Education, Ministry of Education, The Pearsons Product Moment Correlation and t - test were used to analyze the data. The findings of this study were: 1) there was a significant relationship between the ability to conserve number and to solve mathematical problem at the .01 level, the correlation coefficient was 0.569; 2) there was no significant difference between boys and girls on the ability to conserve number at the .01 level.
