Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of prediction inthe pre-listening phase on students listening comprehension and to findout whether, after being trained in prediction strategies, the students areable to apply any of these strategies to their listening process.The subject were 23 first year Microbiology students at King MongkutsInstitute of Technology Thonburi. The experiment was carried out 3 times.The data were collected from questionnaire, listening tasks,teachers diary, students written prediction about the listening text andinformal talk. The results of this study showed that prediction helped thestudents have reasonably good listening comprehension. The students had afavorable attitude towards prediction. The majority of the students couldapply prediction strategies to their listening process. However, therewere some problems emerging from the teachers techniques in encouragingprediction.
