Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to 1) study environmental literacy of lower secondary school students group who learned through Socio-scientific issues methods and 2) compare environmental literacy of lower secondary school students between groups learning through Socio-scientific issue method and the conventional method environmental literacy comprising of 3 components which environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes and environmental behaviors. The samples were two classes of students in lower secondary school from small-size school in Secondary Educational Service Area Office 25 in Khonkean province, during the first semester of academic year 2016. The research instruments for collecting data were 1) environmental knowledge test with the reliability at 0.97, 2) environmental attitudes test with the reliability at 0.81 and 3) self-report on environmental behaviors with the reliability at 0.82. The collected data were analyzed through average score, means of percentage, standard deviation and t-test. The research findings were as follows 1) Environmental literacy of the lower secondary school students who learned through the Socio-scientific issue method were better than those who learned through the conventional method. 2) The average score of environmental knowledge, environmental attitudes and environmental behaviors of the lower secondary school students who learned through the Socio-scientific issue method were significantly higher than those who learned through the conventional method at the level of 0.05.
