Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to study the use of the Central Library, Kasetsart University, Kamphaengsaeri Campus, the needs of the undergraduates and the service-related problems facing them.
The results of this research are as follows : visiting the library more than once a week, the undergraduates rely on the self-taught method in learning to use the library with an aim to make use of periodicals, magazines or newspapers. Frequently used are Thai newspapers and general Thai books. Some types of publication are not needed due to the fact that they are considered unnecessary. It is also found that the mostly used services are photocopying and circulation.
Additional services requested are book acquisition according to users' suggestions, videotape service and exhibitions of current subjects of interest. It is also suggested that the library's office hours be extended and that the library's manual be provided.
Common problems confronted by the users are the lack of reserve and reference books and the borrowing period being too short. Also unavailable or in limited number are certain general books, some requiring too much time to be in service. Moreover, the library's users are faced with uncomfortable atmosphere (insufficient air-conditioning, lacks of fans etc.) and the library's failure to inform them of all the available services.
