Abstract:
At present, Lawns are always found on many residences areas, particularly at the housing projects. The purposes of housing lawn are for beauty, relaxation, releasing tension from daily work, and they are also the necessary houses components. Grass is thus planted as lawn in many places, for example, along the footpath, on the road edges, public park, buildings, restaurant and etc, the places decorated with lawn are very graceful. Meenburi in Bangkok Metropolitan is the major producing area of lawn grass. Previously, farmers in this area had grown paddy thus converted to grass, producing grass at the mentioned area also generated other relevant careers, e.g. grass harvest, transportation, distribution, lawn making, lawn maintenance and etc. Grass, thus takes an important role in our daily life both in terms of economic and pleasant. The objectives of this research are to understand and to study the production process, production problems, and to analyse on the returns on grass production for lawns, as well as to study on factors affecting demand of grass for lawns. The study found that among three types of grass growing patterns, farmers who grow only Zoysia Japonica gain the highest returns, second type is growing many varities of grass in one plot, the lowest return is from growing only Zoysia Metrella. All rates of returns from grass farming by average is however considered to be high enough for investment. Regarding lawn grass distribution, most of the producers sell their products through wholesalers who deliver to retailers, and these retailers distribute to consumers respectively. Type of grass to spread as lawn which is the most popular among the consumers is Zoysia Matrella, the next is Zoysia Japonica and Axonopus compressus respectively. For Tifgreen Burmuda is not popular due to high maintenance costs. Demand of grass for lawn in the future is expected to be higher due to places for beauty, relaxing and releasing pressure and tension from work are needed. Even though grass is important to economic and daily life, there are some problems on producing and distribution grass as follows : 1.The producers are always facing with flood problems which cause damage to grass fields and, the high production costs 2. Grass is insufficient for the distributors, both wholesalers and retailers in some periods of times The above mentioned problems can be solved through these following criteria. 1. Both farmers and grass traders should keep record on types and quantity of grass sold in each month. By this practice, grass can be grown supplied to market in the proper kind quantity and quality. Therefore the problem of grass shortage or surplus can be solved. 2. Farmers should set up production, distribution plans together as the form of agricultural co operatives. The set up plan should be based on the market demand and the trend of growth of housing projects and the private house construction. The coordination as the uniform organization always open the gate to seek help from other organizations, particularly the government agencies, and the government institutes are willing to help farmers as a group instead of individual.
