Abstract:
Purposes of the research The purposes of this research were: 1. To study the folklore in the Educational Region Six concerning traditions, folk plays, and folk handicrafts which could be applied to folklore promotion activities in secondary schools under the auspices of the Department of the General Education in the Educational Region Six. 2. To study the teachers roles on the students for folklore promotion concerning traditions, folk plays, and folk handicrafts and to study the factors which affected the teachers roles in folklore promotion. 3. To study the teachers role in folklore promotion concerning in structional activities, school environment managing, researching, activity participating and culture propagating which perceived by the teachers and students. Findings 1. In the Educational Region Six, there were folklores concerning traditions and folk handicrafts which could be applied to the instructional activities for folklore promotion in the secondary schools. Most folk plays were not interested by the people. The folk plays had to be adapted if they were used in instructional activities. The teachers should have roles in folklore promotion concerning traditions, folk plays and folk handicrafts by studying, preservation and transference the folklores to their students. There were 9 factors which affected the teachers roles in folklore promotion. 2. The teachers and students perceived that the teachers should have roles at the high level in folklore promotion, expecially these following aspects: 1) In instructional activities, the teachers should use equipment concerning traditions, folk plays, and folk handicrafts. They should establish culture clubs in their schools. 2) In school environment managing, the teachers should set up exhibition, posters and books about folklores in their school libraries. They should be models of culture for their students. 3) In researching in culture, the teachers should acquire knowledge of festive seasons and traditions from society and the people and record the knowledge in order to be useful for education. 4) In participating and propagating culture, the teachers should promote their students to invent and use folk handicrafts in their daily lives or sell them. The teachers should have roles in promotion the people to revive, promote and preserve their folklores. 3. The opinions of teachers and students concerning the teachers roles in instructional activities, school environment managing, and researching in culture showed difference at the 0.05 level of significance.
