Abstract: A comparision of emissions from two-stroke and four-stroke motorcycleswas conducted by testing two motorcycles at constant speeds and constant loadsequivalent to the motorcycles traveled at O-60 kg./hr. The motorcycles used in theprogram were 125 cc. two-stroke and 95 cc. four-stroke. Mainly unleaded regulargasoline was used. Morever, feasibility study to use catalytic converter and the studyof effect of gasoline with 92 and 97 RON were carried out.Results show that the two-stroke motorcycle emits HC as much as 17times higher than of the four-stroke. On the contrary, CO and NOx from the four-strokemotorcycle are 1.8 times and 24 times higher than that of the two-strokemotorcycle.The results of using a catalytic converter with the two-stroke motorcycleshow that it can not help reduce CO and HC at speeds of O-50 kg./hr. because of lowexhaust temperature. At speeds of 55-60 km./hr., small reductions of emission areobserved. On the other hand, using catalytic converter with the four-strokemotorcycle, it is found that the catalyst conversion efficiencies CO, HC and NOx are88,85 and 48% respectively.Results of using 92 and 97 RON gasoline show that when 97 RONgasoline is used with the two-stroke motorcycle, NOx concentration increases 3.5times. The effects on CO and HC are negligible. Using 97 RON with the four-strokemotorcycle increases NOx by 20%. However it decreases CO by 25% and HC by23%.
