Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this research was to construct a model for improving competency of the English teachers in elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration by emphasizing the improvement of teachers competency in pronunciation Procedure After [studying] the textbooks, articles, research works and interviewing 6 experts, 15 administrators and 30 English teachers concerning problems and needs in improving English teachers competency, the researcher had constructed a model and one set of questionnaires which convered every aspect, then sent to the 261 administrators and English teachers in 105 elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. These samples were selected by using the simple random sampling technique. The obtained data were analysed by using percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and Z-test. Some parts of the model was then tried out with 6 English teachers and comparing the pre-test scores and post-test scores by using t-test. Results 1. The results showed that the administrators and the English teachers agreed concordantly that the model for improving competency of the English teachers in elementary schools under the authority of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration was efficient in improving the competency of the English teachers. 2. The pre-test and post-test scores, yielding a significant difference at the 0.01 level, indicated that the skill of the English teachers in pronouncing English language was increased.
