Abstract:
This research aimed to analyse the meanings of animals, for the purpose of an identity design which could be used to communicate the brand archetypes. The methods were: 1) seeking interested or brand-orientated target groups from previous researches and cited articles; 2) searching for animal names, and studying the types known by the target groups by inquiring 2 target groups of 5 participants, at least 3 participants in each group must recognize an animal, then only matched answers from both groups were selected; 3) studying brand archetype theory and logo trends, the experts categorising and matching the animal groups and logo trends to the archetypes, the results were explored via 2 5-participant focus group discussions to select animals and logo trends which could communicate the brand archetypes. The results indicated that the Generation Y target group was the suitable group for this research. There were 14 different archetypes the hero, the sage, the magician, the trickster, the seeker, the helper, the mother, the lover, the innocent, the companion, the king, the loner, the rebel, and the creator. There were 56 animals which represented each archetype. Also these were 49 logo trends which matched with these archetypes - these will be used for further design.
