A development of online instructional model using activities base on David Kolb experiential learning with data mining analysis learner and using Stake's model for learning evaluation.
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were as follows: 1) to synthesize an online instructional
model using learning activities based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept that analyze learners via the data mining method and assess their learning outcomes via Stakes Learning Evaluation model; 2) to study variables related to the David Kolbs Experiential Learning style; 3) to analyze the data mining technique for analyzing the learning styles based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept of students majoring Computer Information Systems, Faculty of Business Administration and Liberal Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna Tak; 4) to develop a lesson for the course of Database Management Systems according to the synthesized model; 5) to assess the appropriateness according to the synthesized online instructional model; 6) to determine efficiency of the developed lesson; 7) to study learning achievements of learners before and after learning with the developed lesson; and 8) to assess satisfaction level of learners who learned with the developed lesson. The research methodology was divided into 4 steps as: 1) synthesizing the online instructional model, 2) analyzing the variable based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept, 3) analyzing the learners according to their learning patterns based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept, and 4) developing the online lesson by using learning activities based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept that analyzes learners
with ADDIE Model. The research sample was divided into 2 groups. The first group consisted of 15 experts, who were further categorized into 3 subgroups. The second group had 439 students, divided into 3 subgroups as well. The research results can be concluded as follows. 1) The synthesized online instructional model comprised 6 modules namely: the Rule-based module for classifying patterns of learning according to David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept, the learner module, the teacher module, the content module, the online Learning module, and the learning evaluation module. The expert has the highest level of positive opinion toward the synthesized model. 2) Regarding the results from analyzing variable related to the David Kolbs Experiential Learning style, the experts expressed an opinion that the variables that are likely to have a hign level of relevancy to to the David Kolbs Experiential Learning style inclue sex, course, previous education certificate, Specialty Courses and forvorite subject, etc. 3) The classification on learning
patterns based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept of the students was done byusing classification rules with Decision Tree Technique. The analysis results on parameters identifying maximum efficiency of the classification revealed that the accuracy, the precision, the recall, and the F-measure values equal 88%, 88.20%, 85%, and 85.10%, respectively. 4) The developed lesson has an efficiency value of 89.42/88.38, which was higher than the set criterion of 85/85. The expert has the highest level of positive opinion toward the developed lesson. 5) The assessment input according to the synthesized online instructional model. The expert has the highest level of positive opinion toward assess input and Index of Item-objective Congruence (IOC) has an average value = 0.91. 6) The learners learning achievement after learning with the developed online lesson was significantly higher than their score before the learning, at the significance level of .05. Finally, 7) Satisfaction of the learners who had learned with the developed online lesson was found that at the highest level. In conclusion, the online instructional model using learning activities based on David Kolbs Experiential Learning concept is efficient and should be applied to other courses properly.
