Abstract:
This research attempted to analyze the contents of Funkhwamlang, 1st ed., vol 1, B.E. 2510, vol. 2, B.E. 2511, vol. 3, B.E. 2512, and vol.4, B.E. 2513 by Phya Anuman Rajadhon which have been recognized as invaluable sources of knowledge in Thai history, biography, tradition, and culture, etc. The analysis concentrated on the classification of subject fields treated in this series which might enlighten some usefulness in information services. A method of content analysis was employed in this study. In addition to detail analysis of the contents of Funkhwamlang, Phya Anuman Rajadhons autobiography was also collected. In classifying contents of the book, criteria for analyzing subject headings of Thai Library Association, manuals of subject headings of Thai Library Association and of the Library of Congress, and a manual of Dewey Decimal Classification System were consulted. In collecting data, 5˝×7˝ cards were used to record a summary of each topic, in which volume number, page number, and subject heading for a particular topic were noted. Frequency count was made for the occurrence of each subject heading for the whole series. Percentage was calculated for each case and presented in the form of bar charts. It was revealed that Funkhwamlang included contents on social sciences the most which made a total of 57.64 percent in all. Humanities was second comprising of 32.14 percent. Sciences received the least treatment (10.22 percent). The researcher suggested that further research in this manner should be done on other books covering the multiplicity of subject fields so that a cyclopedia of names could be compiled to serve as a source for library reference service.
