Abstract:
To compare the achievement scores in English word reading of Prathom Three Students, through Look-and-Say Method and Phonic Method. Procedure: The sampled population, consisting of 38 students from third grade Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School (Elementary) was matched by using the mid-term English Examination scores. Both control and experimental groups were taught by the researcher herself by using look-and-say method and phonic method respectively. The researcher made a 16 period modules lesson plan based on the subject matter taken from the school syllabus. During the experiment, the exercises designed by the researcher were added after each lesson to practice reading skill. At the completion of the 16 lessons both experimental and control groups were given the reading achievement test constructed by the researcher with experts consultation. The obtained scores were then analyzed by using t-test to compare the differences between the effectiveness of two teaching methods. Finding: There was no significant difference in the reading achievement scores of both control and experimental groups. Therefore, the hypothesis was rejected.
