Abstract:
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate opinions concerning the competence of the students teaching supervisors in Northern Teachers Colleges. The two specific purposes were as follows : 1. To study the competence that qualified supervisor should have in supervising the students teaching, 2. To study the supervisors' competence in supervising the students teaching. Prooedure The population consisted of 224 supervisors in Northern. Teachers Colleges in the academic year 1980, The research questionnaires were constructed in variable forms : check-list rating scale, order, and open-ended. The reliabilities of the questionnaires concerning with qualified supervisors and supervisors conpetence in supervising of the students teaching were .98 and .9, respectively. The 224 coppies of questionnaires were Bent out to population, and 205 coppies ( 91.52 % ) were returned. The data was statistically analyzed for its percentages, means, and standard daviations. Results The results of this research were as follows 1. Supervisory Knowledge The most important items concerning supervisory knowledge were set in this order i understanding in the Teachers Training Policy, methods of teaching, class activities, objectives of education, philosophy of the Students Teaching Program, students teaching and its curriculum, and teaching skills at the elementary school level. Supervisorss knowledges in these mentioned items were considered high. Supervisors' knowledges in educational technology, communities involved experiences in supervision at elementary school level, and research were considered "low". 2.Supervisory Ability The most important items consuming supervisory ability were set in this order ; guidance in methods of teaching, class activities, skills in teaching, individual taking-care, lesson plan checking and comments. The supervisors. abilities in these mentioned items were considered high". The supervisors abilities in preparing teaching students, helping school-supervisors, applying theories into practice, introducing audio-visual media, applying modern supervisory technology, conducting school activities such as bulletin board, exhibition, field trip, and helping students analyzing their teaching ware considered "low". 3. Administrative Ability The most important item concerning administrative ability was the ability in taking care of students to behave and do their works properly. Supervisors ability in this mentioned item was considered "high". Their abilities in cooperating in gathering news "and informations, cooperating with schools-involved 1 understanding schools projects, conducting meetings and orientations, gathering informations and making decisions concerning establishing and disestablishing supervisory schools gathering the involved data and informations, and making news letters or magazine concerning students teaching and supervision were considered "low". 4. Human Relationship Supervisors agreed that human relationship was important in supervision. And it highly used in every item, 5. Working spirit Working spirit was the most important factor influencing the supervisors' competence.
