Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to 1) study the management performance of village health volunteers in Ayothaya Town municipality, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, 2) study the factors influencing the management performance of the village health volunteers of Ayothaya Town municipality and 3) propose guidelines for improving the management performance of village health volunteers in Ayothaya Town municipality. This study used a quantitative approach and was conducted by studying a sample of 152 respondents who were selected from a population of 245 village health volunteers working in Ayothaya Town municipality. They were selected by stratified random sampling and simple random sampling techniques. The sample size was obtained by calculations done with the Taro Yamane formula. In-depth interviews were also conducted with six executives of Ayothaya Town municipality. The data were collected using a questionnaire with a reliability of 0.96 and were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and stepwise regression analysis. The research results were as follows: 1) The management performance of the village health volunteers in Ayothaya Town municipality, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province was overall, at a high level ( = 3.64, S.D. = 0.56). Considering each aspect individually revealed that the aspect of working satisfaction was at the highest level ( = 3.76, S.D. = 0.71), followed by the aspect of work achievement ( = 3.68, S.D. = 0.68) and the aspect of work quality ( = 3.49, S.D. = 0.59), respectively. 2) There were 4 factors influencing the management performance of the village health volunteers in Ayothaya Town municipality (1) working incentives, (2) social respect, (3) morale and working spirit and (4) working progress. These four factors could explain 61.5 % of the variation management performance of the village health volunteers in Ayothaya Town municipality (R2 = 0.615) at the statistical level of significance of 0.01 3) The proposed guidelines for improving the management performance of the village health volunteers in Ayothaya Town municipality stated that (1) the working incentives should be more promoted, (2) the village health volunteers opportunities for self-development should be increased, (3) the job training should be more enhanced, (4) more activities promoting skill enhancement should be provided, especially as they concern disease prevention and control, and (5) the benefits payments should be increased and honor declarations should be provided to distinguished village health volunteers.
