Abstract:
Being identified as one of the urban growth centres in the Northeast of Thailand, Khon Khen Province must be ready for development of all aspects including basic services in order to meet the physical, population and socio-economic growth in the future. The objectives of the study for land use pattern of Khon Khen Municipality are to study the roles, present conditions, problems and characteristics of land use growth of Khon Khen Municipality as well as to determine a land use pattern for it. From the study result, it is found that Khon Khen Province is the centre of regional public administration and regional transportation which make Khon Khen Municipality important as a regional service centre as well. The area of Khon Khen Municipality consists of four main parts: government area in the North, educational area which mainly is Khon Khen University, business area in the Central and residential area surrounding the business area. The direction of the community growth is as follows: the residential area will expand to the East along Srichan Road and Pracha Samoson Road, the business area will expand to the West along Maliwan Rd. which will result in heavy traffic at the cross-roads of Pracha Samoson and Mitrapab Roads. Consequently, there must be two by-passes namely 1) a by-pass starting from the South of Mitrapab Rd. to the West until connecting Highway No. 12 2) a by-pass starting from the South of Mitrapab Rd. to the East until connecting Highway No. 209. Besides, the industrial area should be located in the South and the East of the Municipality. The first one is along Mitrapab Rd. to the South which will consist of transportation service industries and another one is along Srichan Rd. to the East which will consist of agricultural industries. Land use of Khon Khen Municipality must be intensive enough to cover land price Combination Pattern should be introduced and used as guidelines for development of land use pattern in the future.
