Abstract
The objectives of this research are to compare silk color died by extraction of 2 different corn cob varieties and find the suitable methods for dying process. Experiment 1comparing the method to apply mordant. The mordant (3% SnCl22H2O) was applied before, at the same time and after dyeing silk. The dyes were extracted from cobs of SW9220 and Siam Ruby Queen. Experiment 2, the effect 5 different types of mordant was evaluated. The 5 different types of mordant consisted of tin chloride (SnCl2.2H2O), alum (AlK (SO4)212H2O), sodium chloride (NaCl), copper sulfate (CuSO45H2O), ferric sulphate (FeSO4) experiment 3 comparing effect of extraction temperature on color of dyed silk. Six different extraction temperatures were used consisting 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 ºC experiment 4 effect of boiling duration in extraction process on silk color. Four different boiling durations were tested including 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Experiment 5, comparing boiling temperature in dying process. Silk was boiled at 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 ºC. Experiment 6, Effect of boiling duration in dying process on silk color. Silk was boiled for 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Result, in experiment 1, the color from sw9220 was more desirable than Siam Ruby Queen. Applying mordant at the same time as dying was better than applying before or after dying. In experiment 2, 3% SnCl2 2H2O mordant made color of dyed silk better than the other. In Experiment 3, extraction at 80 ºC made color of dyed better than the others temperature. In Experiment 4, silk color was most similar to corn cob when extraction period was 60 minutes. In experiment 5, dying at 80 ºC made silk color better than the other temperature. In experiment 6, dying period for 60 minutes made silk color close to corn cob more than the other. The SW9220 was more suitable for color extraction than Siam Siam Siam Siam Ruby Queen uby Queenuby Queenuby Queen uby Queen. Corn cob should be extracted at 80 ºC for 60 minutes. Silk should by dye by at 80 ºC for 60 minutes and 3% SnCl2 2H2O should be applied at the same time as dying.
