Abstract:
The research had objective to study factors that affected saving behavior in order to obtain the data for the data base to determine strategic plan to promote savings of the members of Chanthaburi Teacher Saving & Credit Cooperative. The data were collected through survey. Mixed method between quantitative and qualitative researches was used. Questionnaires and interviews were the instrument of the study. The sample group consisted of 400 members and 6 members who had the most savings. The findings revealed that the majority (219 respondents) were female members. 137 respondents were from 40 years old to less than 50 years old. A group of 183 members was single and another group of 183 members was married. The numbers of the two groups were equal. 217 respondents had a bachelors degree. 91 respondents salary was less than or equaled 15,000 baht. 192 respondents had 4-6 family members. 240 respondents were government officials. The majority of the respondents put an emphasis on factor concerning savings incentive. Most of the respondents put an emphasis on saving for the need of emergency- money and the incentive for their savings was the interest rate which was higher than that of other commercial banks. For the saving behavior, it was found that the objective of saving was the factor on which the members put an emphasis the most. The members saved the money with the Cooperative because they were confident in the working system of the Cooperative. The Cooperative had planned the structure of the services very well, therefore divisions were obviously divided. In fact, the Cooperative had only specific customers, so the number of the staff was suitable for providing the services to the members. To the factors which affected saving behavior, it was found that members with different age, education, salary, number of family members, and position had difference in savings behavior. The interest rate of Chanthaburi Teacher Saving & Credit Cooperative was the factor that affected the change of the members saving behavior at statistical significance level of 0.05.
