Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study and analyze the process in developing the value chain for export of lady finger bananas from Thailand to China in order to provide guidelines for value-added exports of the bananas to China. The value change theory was used as well as value added theory. This study was carried out applying qualitative research methods through in-depth interviews with the sample group. The sample group of 6 individuals consisted of four groups including buyers of lady finger bananas from growers in Chantaburi Province, Thai entrepreneurs exporting to China and Chinese in Chantaburi buying the lady finger bananas, importers and exporters to China, and fruit retailers in China. From the research it was found that the value added process in each activity of the process and value chain could be separated into 4 levels beginning with 1) buyers from growers; 2) buyers and exporters to China; 3) importers and wholesalers in China and 4) fruit retailers in China until the last destination which is the consumers in China. From the research it was clear who received the highest profits or benefits in the value chain, namely the importers and wholesaler in China. They determined the prices in the value chain and were a key driver in the value chain. Value added began with selecting the bananas in terms of appearance to meet the market demands abroad, especially in China.
