Abstract:
Succinic acid is widly used as a precursor for synthesisof other chemicals, food and medical additives.Succinic is mainly produced by chemical process from petroleum-based material. This production is expensive and causes serious pollution problems. Fermentative production of succinic acid from renewable agricultural materials has considerable interest. This research was to study the production of succinic acid from bacteria isolated from buffalo rumen. The production of succinic acid using baffled flask gave a succinic acid concentration of 2.89 g/L. with succinic yield of 0.14 g/g. and productivity of0.12 g/L/h. with in 24 h. The addition of CO2 for the production of succinic acid gave a succinic acid concentration of2.89 g/L. with succinic yield and productivity of0.14 g/g. and 0.12 g/L/h., respectively. The production of succinic acid in a 5-L batch fermenter with better efficiently controled of conditions, agitation speed and continuous CO2 sparging gave a succinic yield of 0.58 g/g. with productivity of2.29 g/L/h., In which they increased 1.29 and 8.14 folds, respectively when compared with the shake flask cultivation. The production of succinic acid from cassava pulp hydrolysate by enzyme in a 5-L fermenter with multiple sequential batch cultivation technicalgave a succinic acid concentration of 127.58 g/L. with yield of 0.54 g/g., productivity of 1.77 g/L/h. and efficiency of 80.80 %. The results show the production of succinic acid from cassava pulp waste renewable biological resource and using CO2, a greenhouse gas, has distinct advantages and potential.
