Abstract:
This study was aimed to research and develop lipstick coating gel for long lasting color with comparing to the commercial product from foreign countries. The lipstick coating gel formula was developed by using a different gel film substances and their gel characteristics and features were obtained. The product was tested in term of stability and efficiency of long-lasting, water-resistance and as well as consumer satisfaction. The results showed that 10 formulas of lipsticks coating were developed with 2 gel film substances (Fomblin HC/R, Fomblin HC 04) and various their amount. Based on the findings, Fomblin HC 04 was a good gel film forming substance and good lipstick coating ability. This substance gave light and not overly glossy, while Fomblin HC/R yielded a thick, viscous gel film that was unable to be coat lipstick. Furthermore, the amount of Dimethyl silylation silica might affect to the viscosity and the dryness of the product. Therefore, a good, suitable formula was Formula 10, which was composed of the film, Fomblin HC 04 (94% w/w) and Dimethyl silylation silica (2.5%w/w). The appearance of gel film was solid, white color, and transparent evenly distributed and viscous with a pH value of 5. The formula was similar to the prototype, which the formula 10 was fastest dry within two minutes after apply, like the prototype. However, Formula 10 was slightly less viscous than the prototype. In stability test, the prototype and Formula 10 had good stability. Nevertheless, Formula 10 was slightly less viscous after stability test. Furthermore, the products were passed the bacterial contamination test with Mikrocount Combi®. In the lipstick coating efficiency of the prototype and Formula 10 on an acrylic surface, it was found that Formula 10 had more capable of coating all three types of lipsticks (stick form, cream lipstick, and lip gloss)than the prototype. And the lipstick coating efficiency of the prototype was decreased within three hours after apply, while Formula 10 was able to coat for as long as six hours with decreasing efficiency as time elapsed. According to the test results on water-resistance efficiency, the prototype and Formula 10 could resist water well for lipstick in stick and cream forms. However, lip gloss color of the prototype was found to peel, thereby showing that the prototype was unable to coat the color to resist water for lip gloss. According to the test results for lipstick blotting on tissue paper found the lipstick color to visibly flake and peel when coated with the prototype whereas only minor flaking and peeling was found with Formula 10. Based on the irritation test in volunteers, the findings showed no indication of irritation in both prototype and Formula 10.The satisfaction of the volunteers was showed that the volunteers were satisfied after using Formula 10. The satisfaction scores for using colored lipstick in stick form = 4.30±0.67; the scores for cream lipstick = 4.8±0.52 and the scores for colored lip gloss = 4.6±0.52. These satisfaction scores were higher than the prototype for all three types of lipstick. Therefore, result suggested that Formula 10 can be a prototype extension for lipstick gel coating in the cosmetics industry.
