Public participation in the Narcotic prevention and Suppression: a case study of Community in the area of Responsibility of Jakong police station, Khukhan district, Sisaket province
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study the level of public participation in the narcotic prevention and suppression, study the size of factors that affected the public participation in the prevention and suppression in personals factor, factor in the faith of the head community, the awareness of the drug problem, problems and obstacles. Data were collected by using questionnaires from 300 respondents who live in Jakong, Kritsana, Takien, and Lomsak sub districts. These communities are in charge of the Jakong police station. And interview 15 community committees and 15 committees from the Center of struggle to overcome drug. Data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed by using statistics: average, percentage, Standard Deviation, Multiple stepwise regression analysis. The information obtained from interviews taken as a result of technical analysis to support the analysis of data from the population.
The results of the study were as follows:
The majority of the samples are females, aged older than 35 years, graduated secondary education, farmers, had income lower than 6,000 Bath, and the period of about 11-30 years living in the community.
The level of participation of the people in overall was at a moderate level. Considering each aspect found that most of them took part in the search problem and the cause of problems, followed by investment and performance aspect, the monitoring and evaluation aspect, thinking, planning, and policy provided.
The personals factor, factor in the faith of the head community, the awareness of the drug problem, problems and obstacles, able to explain the participation in the narcotic prevention and suppression were different and mutually explain 24.80 percent. By the faith of the community could be described as the highest up to 19.10 percent. The insufficient awareness of the drug problem could explain 2.50 percent, and living in the community at the 2.00 and 1.00 percent, respectively.
Problems and obstacles for the narcotic prevention and suppression from the data analysis, found the project or activity, the drug has no continuity, the community had no great deal, lack of technical support and funding regulations and practices of the government was not consistent or did not meet the needs of the community, lack of alignment with the commitment and willingness, lack of cooperation from the relevant authorities, received few support from the public and private sectors.
