Abstract:
This thesis has three objectives : to create information storage and retrieval system for Silpakorn University Archives; to survey the satisfaction of both database users including librarians and system analysts and general public users including lecturers and students; and to evaluate the efficiency of the system through recall and precision. A database used in this thesis was created by Mini-Micro CDS/ISIS Version 2.3. The program was adopted to be able to display Thai alphabets correctly. The sample data collected were of 692 titles selected from archival materials at Silpakorn University Archives. They were abstracted and converted into us MARC:AMC format before being keyed into the database, employing a microcomputer. The storage and retrieval system can be utilized in managing the Silpakorn University Archives. The database structure is very appropriate and the system operates effectively. The evaluators are highly satisfied with search results. Since the database is quite small, the evaluators indicate low level of satisfaction in terms of number of items retrieved, relevant items, and coverage of subject needed. It is also found that the recall and precision are not inversely correlated.
