Relationships between personal factors, democratic child-rearing, social support, achievement motivation, and emotional quotient of staff nurses in emergency room, governmental hospitals, Bangkok Metropolis
Abstract:
To study Emotional Quotient of staff nurses in emergency room governmental hospitals, Bangkok Metropolis, to investigate the relationships between personal factors, democratic child-rearing, social support, achievement motivation, and Emotional Quotient of staff nurses, and to search for the variables that could predict Emotional Quotient of staff nurses in emergency room. The subjects consisted of 189 staff nurses selected by stratified random sampling. Research instruments were Emotional Quotient, democratic child-rearing, social support, achievement motivation questionnaires which were tested for content validity. Their reliability were .67, .94, .81, and .96, respectively. Statistical methods used to analyze the data included mean, standard deviation, Pearsonʼs product moment correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Major findings were as follows: 1. Democratic child-rearing, social support, and achievement motivation of staff nurses in emergency room, governmental hospitals, Bangkok Metropolis were at high level. Emotional Quotient of staff nurses in emergency room, governmental hospitals, Bangkok Metropolis was at middle level. 2. Status of marriage, democratic child-rearing were no significantly related to Emotional Quotient of staff nurses in emergency room. Social support, achievement motivation were positively and significantly related, at the .05 level. 3. Factors significantly predicted Emotional Quotient of staff nurses in emergency room were social support, status of marriage, achievement motivation, and democratic child-rearing, at the .05 level. These predictors accounted for 17.1 percents of the variance (R[superscript 2] = .171). The standard score equation was as follow : Emotional Quotient = .203 Social support - .211 Status of marriage + .230 Achievement motivation - .150 Democratic child-rearing.
