Needs for microcomputer usage of elementary school administrators in educational administrative tasks in elementary schools under the jurisdiction of the Office of the National Primary Education Commission
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study knowledge in microcomputers and needs for microcomputer usage of elementary school a[d]ministrators in educational administrative tasks in elementary schools under the jurisdiction of the Office of the National Primary Education Commission. Questionnaires were sent to 500 administrators in elementary schools of which 447 complete questionnaires or 89.40 percent, were returned and analyzed. The results revealed as follows : 1. Most of administrators lack of knowledge in microcomputer. 2. The administrators both with or without microcomputer knowledge perceived that microcomputer applications in administration would increase efficiency, data processing accuracy and prompt decision making. Regarding instruction, Microcomputers could motivate student learning, assist in personal data records and fair evaluation. The limitations of microcomputer usage viewed by school administrators were high maintainance cost and disturbance by dust and virus contraction. To purchase microcomputers, efficiency, guarantee period and qualifications specified by the agencies concerned were considered. To select the sale company, good service and service after sale were taken into account. 3. Needs for computer usage ranked by knowledgeable school administrators were in clerical work finance, school business services, personnel administration, academic administration, student personnel services, school- community relations and school plant. 4. School administrators w[i]thout microcomputer knowledge ranked the needs for microcomputer usage namely : personnel administration, clerical work, finance, school business, service; student personnel service, academic administration and school plant.
