Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to construct and develop basic ability test for preschool children. There were four subtests : language, mathematic, perception and reasoning, with two types of test : non-verbal test and performance test. Each subtest consisted of 20 items. Time to complete each item was 30 second. The sample consisted of 359 preschool children, academic year 1995, in elementary schools under the Jurisdiction of the Office of the Bangkok Primary Education. These results of the research were as follow : 1. The item difficulty ranged from .25 to .82 and the item discrimination ranged from. .18 to .72 2. Reliabilities of the four subtest were .71, .72, .79 and .73 respectively and the standard error of measurement were 1.95, 1.94, 1.89 and 1.85 respectively. 3. The concurrent validity of the four subtests were .49, .41, .28 and .62 respectively at the significance level of .05. 4. The construct validity of the four subtests were : language test consisted of 11 items which factor loading concordant with the construct and the percentage of accented variance was 31.0, mathematics test consisted of 12 items which factor loading concordant with the construct and the percentage of accounted variance was 46.5, perception test consisted of 11 items which factor loading concordant with the construct and the percentage of accounted variance was 36.80 and reasoning test consisted of 11 items which factor loading concordant with the construct and the percentage of accounted variance was 31.60. 5. Percentile Norm for each subtest was constructed from the sample of 369 preschool children.
