A study of the actual and expected characteristics of school administrators in English program schools under the Office of Private Education Commission, Bangkok metropolis
Abstract:
The purpose of this descriptive research was to study the actual and expected characteristics of school administrators in English Program schools under the office of Private Education Commission, Bangkok Metropolis, as perceived by administrators and teachers. The population consisted of 144 school administrators and a sample of 186 teachers, in total 330 respondents from 66 English Program schools under the Office of Private Education Commission, Bangkok Metropolis. All data were analyzed by using percentage, mean ([x-bar]) and standard deviation (S.D.) and ttest. The research findings revealed that the ten actual characteristics of school administrators as perceived by administrators and teachers were at a high level ([x-bar]= 3.50 4.49), whereas the three characteristics : making decisions, resolving conflict and communication, were at the highest level for administrators and at a high level for teachers. For the ten expected characteristics of school administrators, the expected characteristics of school administrators, as perceived by administrators and teachers, were at different levels, except : communication that was at the highest level for both administrators and teachers. Moreover, the findings revealed that the ten actual characteristics of school administrators were all at a high level, whereas three of the expected characteristics : making decisions, resolving conflict and communication, were at the highest level of all. When the administrators and the teachers views on the actual and expected characteristics of school administrators were compared, the differences on all 10 characteristics were found statistically and significantly different at .05 level.
